The interplay of these diverse flowers creates a dynamic composition that reflects the layered complexity of my experiences. The sunflowers stand tall and radiant, symbolizing the warmth and light often found in fleeting moments of clarity amidst the surreal. The brushstrokes are intentional yet free, suggesting movement within the stillness of the scene. There’s an intimacy here, an invitation to the viewer to step closer and experience the interplay of color and light, just as you might lean in to smell a fresh bloom. This piece dances between the lines of representation and emotion, pulling the essence of the flowers into focus rather than their precise botanical details. It’s like capturing a moment's fleeting beauty on a canvas that will endure.

I’m a London-based artist, and my work often reflects vivid and surreal imagery inspired by my unique experience with REM intrusion—a condition where dream-like visions can appear while I’m awake. Pink and red tulip forms alongside yellow-gold fringed blooms and small white accents are painted with directional strokes pushing upward and outward without fully resolving individual species. The yellow-gold fringed forms are the most visually active, their marks energetic and slightly frantic against the cooler pinks. The vase sits on an implied dark surface, receiving a narrow rim of reflected light at its base. The tulip heads are painted as flat simplified forms — orange, red, yellow, purple — with minimal internal modelling, each petal a single colour plane. The vase is rendered transparently, the wooden table surface visible through the glass. Background is a soft grey-green with loose directional marks. The table in warm ochre-yellow provides the dominant warm note. The arrangement fills the full vertical length of the format. The simplification of the flower forms — each head a rounded flat shape — sits in mild tension with the relative naturalism of the vase and table below.

These are not hand-signed versions and come direct from Ryan Louder's preferred printer.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0784/4246/3577/files/d2aa02544dd14e77a862e00a3703999f_opt_df6d3fea-c1bc-4fa2-aee2-cc07b0999317.jpg?v=1777841753
flowers-by-ryan-louder-2
Flowers by Ryan Louder

Signal Rating: 6/10 — Significant
Classification: Hallucinatory

This painting by Ryan Louder is part of a body of work shaped by his neurological condition — Narcolepsy with REM Intrusion Hallucinations, clinically confirmed via MSLT at Guy's Hospital, London.
