The work contains hallucinatory imagery — geometric form constants, phosphene-like patterns, and perceptual structures consistent with REM intrusion.

Neuroaesthetic markers identified: Drawn-and-painted mixed-media work with a night scene of the station forecourt; the cross-hatching overlay creates a visual interference pattern over the architectural forms — the world is being seen through noise; figures cast exaggerated, directionally inconsistent shadows that do not obey a single light source; the clock tower at centre is both the most legible element and the most threatening, standing above a scene of figures moving through darkness; the woman with the red suitcase at centre-left is the only figure with narrative specificity — she is possibly the dreamer's avatar, the single individuated presence in a field of shadows; the deep blue at the right edge intrudes as if a wall of night is closing in; the hallucinatory signal comes from the interference-pattern surface and the impossible shadow network

These markers are not deliberate artistic techniques but direct visual recordings of what REM intrusion hallucinations look like. Each painting in this collection has been subjected to neuroaesthetic forensic analysis to identify and catalogue the perceptual phenomena present.

The station forecourt is rendered in mixed media — watercolour washes of yellow ochre and grey establishing the ground, with pen-and-ink cross-hatching overlaid across architecture and sky as visual interference rather than structural description. The clock tower at centre is the most architecturally resolved element, its column catching light against a sky pressed dark by dense hatching. Figures move as dark smears and silhouettes, their shadows fanning in directions that contradict a single source. At centre-left, a figure with a dark red-handled case is the only person given narrative particularity. The female figure wears a red dress and faces the viewer with simplified, wide-set eyes. The work contains dissociative imagery — boundary dissolution, figure-ground collapse, and spatial incoherence consistent with REM intrusion.

Neuroaesthetic markers identified: The chromatic key is hyperbolically acidic — yellows and greens that do not occur in London daylight even on the brightest morning; this chromatic exaggeration is a marker of the way the dissociating perceptual system over-saturates familiar scenes; the cyclist figure at centre is dark against the luminous ground, a silhouette without individuating features; the spatial recession is compressed, everything pushed to a single plane; the rain-wet surfaces create a doubling of all objects in reflection, dissociating the scene into two overlapping realities

These markers are not deliberate artistic techniques but direct visual recordings of what REM intrusion hallucinations look like. The imagery emerges from neurological experience, not metaphor. Ryan has painted over 2,000 works, with over 1,000 originals sold. Each painting in this collection has been subjected to neuroaesthetic forensic analysis to identify and catalogue the perceptual phenomena present.

A rain-wet London street scene at an intersection, looking toward a red double-decker bus in the middle distance. A dark figure — cyclist or pedestrian — occupies the centre foreground as a silhouette without individuating features, reflected imprecisely in the wet ground. The colour throughout is dominated by acid yellow-green: the buildings, the bus surroundings, the sky — all pushed into a register with no naturalistic London equivalent. The red of the bus is the one counter-note. A dark lamp post cuts vertically through the right third. The wet surfaces double every form in smeared reflection, so each object coexists with its own distorted ghost below.

Each original painting comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. Ryan Louder is a London-based painter with a medical diagnosis of narcolepsy with cataplexy — his paintings are direct records of REM intrusion hallucinations and hypnagogic dreamscapes experienced in waking life. The work contains hypnagogic imagery — embedded secondary images, phantom figures, and forms emerging from within the scene.

Neuroaesthetic markers identified: Deep teal nocturnal sky with no stars — the flattened hallucinatory dark of REM onset; single oversized lamp glows with a halo that bleeds orange-white into the surrounding dark — isolated light source in an otherwise unlit environment is a primary hypnagogic marker; Big Ben rendered ghostly and receding, existing simultaneously as landmark and spectral form; a pink cruciform mark on the foreground pavement is unexplained by the scene and reads as a phosphene intrusion; colour relationships (teal, orange, pink on near-black) match the saturated unreality of hypnagogic vision

The entire scene is pitched in deep teal and near-black, with a horizontal band of luminous warm yellow-white forming the London skyline — impasto strokes reading as tower blocks, clock tower, bridge arch — low across the canvas. Above, the sky moves through teal into burgundy-black, lit by a smear of pink-violet supplying colour without any identifiable source. The bridge below carries reflections in dark water: gold, green, white marks diffused by the dissolution of the paint itself. No sky contains stars; the dark is flat and un-modulated. The surface texture is aggressive throughout — knife or heavy brush — giving the scene energetic instability rather than stillness.

These are not hand-signed versions and come direct from Ryan Louder's preferred printer.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0784/4246/3577/files/366a0398aa2c4f4bb3ab15c8dcf08a6a_opt.jpg?v=1777841195
the-phone-box-by-ryan-louder
The Phone Box by Ryan Louder

The Phone Box

I’m a London-based artist, and my work often reflects vivid and surreal imagery inspired by my unique experience with REM intrusion—a condition where dream-like visions can appear while I’m awake. The upper two-thirds is occupied by churning green-grey and near-black cloud, its brushwork directional and urgent. At the base of the architecture, a band of orange fire replaces any ground-level reality — the buildings emerge from flame rather than from earth. The Thames below reflects this band, inverting the fire downward so that the composition burns from its centre outward. Architectural detail is gestural at its clearest and fragmentary elsewhere. Above the architecture, the sky is a seething mass of grey-blue brushwork from which larger pale masses emerge — atmospheric pressure but also indistinct presences, the paint in this zone distinct from the more anchored lower register.
