The imagery emerges from neurological experience, not metaphor. Ryan has painted over 2,000 works, with over 1,000 originals sold. At the centre, a face resolves from the paint — two dark eyes visible, a long form beneath suggesting a nose, the whole head rendered in broad blue-grey strokes that also constitute atmospheric turbulence. Red marks appear at lower left, some forming drips against the pale ground near the signature. To either side, darker masses accumulate carrying the suggestion of additional presences — peripheral and unresolved but distinct enough to register as separate entities. That red is the warmest and most materially present note in the canvas. Everywhere else, figures accumulate: electric cyan outlines produce faces, grasping hands, contorted bodies, reaching arms from a field offering no stable negative space. Upper left holds a large dark-red circular form. At lower left, a blue-skinned figure crouches open-mouthed. Text fragments appear at the upper right margin. The work contains hallucinatory imagery — geometric form constants, phosphene-like patterns, and perceptual structures consistent with REM intrusion.

Neuroaesthetic markers identified: phantom figures (two distinct figures: small figure at left with visible face, large eroded figure-form at centre-right emerging from the atmospheric mass); chimeric fusion (the central mass reads as both landscape feature and collapsing human form); self-luminous forms (entire composition rendered in bioluminescent teal/grey suggesting phosphene-field illumination); boundary dissolution (all forms dissolve at edges into surrounding atmosphere); figure-ground collapse (impossible to determine stable ground — all areas read as potential figure); unstable identities (central figure alternately reads as face, torso, and geological formation)

These markers are not deliberate artistic techniques but direct visual recordings of what REM intrusion hallucinations look like. Brown, teal, orange, and pink jostle across a composition structured around a central vertical mass of ambiguous anatomy — readable as torso, geological formation, or doorway. Within it, faces resolve and dissolve: a mask-like profile in pale yellow at upper left; at upper right, a broadly painted face in orange and tan; smaller figures press through the surfaces below. At the lower register, crouching forms emerge, identities uncertain. The arch at upper left reads simultaneously as architectural opening and the curvature of a skull. Hair is rendered in yellow-green impasto that sits apart from the face in colour temperature. The skin across the torso and back carries a mottled, almost mossy texture — not naturalistic flesh but something between body and the material it rests on.
