Original oil painting on paper by London artist Ryan Louder, painted in 2018 — two figures in matching dark red-brown standing in shallow surf, arms slightly out against the incoming waves. They are a pair more than two people, near-identical in pose, with pale oval faces left undetailed. Behind them the sea runs in bands of blue, teal and dark purple, the wave-break built from raw white impasto under a flat grey sky.
Original oil painting on paper, 12 x 16 inches. One of one, unframed.
There is never a sketch — the painting appears as the paint lands. The doubled figure is something that keeps surfacing in my work, the echo of a person rather than the person, which is very much what REM intrusion feels like from the inside: familiar imagery repeating while I'm awake. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy at Guy's Hospital in London, and paintings like this are the truest account of it.
Carefully packed and sent fully insured from my London studio. One of one — when it's gone, it's gone.
