Beach Life is an original oil painting on canvas, 92 x 61 cm (36 x 24 inches), by London artist Ryan Louder.
A beach scene with the depth taken out of it. A diver hangs horizontal in the upper left with white wing shapes on his back, caught mid arc and going nowhere. A boy stands at the centre with his arms thrown wide. Around them people swim, crouch, carry things, all of it spread across the surface like a diagram instead of a view. Warm sandy yellow and sky blue, flat gold shapes that suggest buildings without agreeing to be buildings.
Everything here is declared, not described. Blue, gold, skin tones, straight in. Near and far refuse to separate in the way the scene arrives to me, so I painted the beach the way it arrives rather than the way a camera would file it.
