Blue Door Red Door is an original oil painting on canvas by London artist Ryan Louder, measuring 102 x 76 cm (40 x 30 inches). This haunting surrealist figurative painting portrays two luminous, spectral figures poised between contrasting red and blue doors, exploring psychological thresholds, identity, and the boundary between inner reflection and physical presence.
Rendered in eerie, luminous blue-green tones against a shadowy backdrop, the near-identical figures face each other—one turned towards the viewer with hand raised in quiet contemplation, the other turned away. The vibrant red and blue doorways frame the figures as symbolic choices, leaving the narrative deliberately open and atmospheric.
Created directly in oil paint on stretched canvas without preliminary sketches. My painting practice is directly informed by narcolepsy with REM intrusion, where dream imagery crosses over into waking consciousness. The doubled figures, blurred boundaries, and hypnotic tension capture that authentic hypnagogic experience.
Offered as the original one-of-a-kind oil painting on canvas, unframed, carefully packed and shipped fully tracked and insured from London. Also available as an archival open-edition A3 fine art print.
