By The Beach is an original oil painting on canvas, 45 x 65 cm, painted in 2024 by London artist Ryan Louder — a woman's face at the shoreline, painted loose and gestural, the sitter and the sea softening into one another.
Ryan paints with no sketch or plan, and the image arrives as the paint goes on. Faces like this one surface on their own — a direct result of narcolepsy with REM intrusion, clinically confirmed at Guy's Hospital in London, which means dream-like visions appear while he is fully awake. What you see in this painting is close to what he sees.
Bold, deliberate brushwork rewards close viewing: layered colour and texture that shift as the light in your room changes through the day. One of one — when it's gone, it's gone. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, carefully packaged and dispatched fully insured with a tracked courier.
