In A Far Away Land is a large original oil painting on canvas, 178 x 152 cm (70 x 60 inches), by London artist Ryan Louder. A dreamlike landscape crowded with figures and forms, somewhere between reality and the unknown.
When I paint, I let my mind wander and play, allowing colours and shapes to take on a life of their own. Some of the figures in this scene are plucked straight from my own experiences; others are entirely abstract and open to interpretation. There are moments of beauty and moments of distortion, moments of lightness and moments of darkness. At its core, this painting is a celebration of imagination - the magic of the dream world, and what happens when you allow yourself to be open to the endless possibilities inside you.
Painted in oil on canvas in my London studio.
My work is shaped by narcolepsy with REM intrusion, diagnosed at Guy's Hospital in London: dream-like visions appear while I am awake and end up in the paintings. This one is exactly what the title says, a landscape from the far side of sleep.
I have painted over 2,000 works and sold more than 1,000 originals. At this size the painting ships rolled in a protective tube and any framer can stretch it. Tracked courier - questions always welcome.
