Three Statues by Ryan Louder

Three Statues is an original oil painting on canvas board, 16 by 20 inches (41 by 51 cm), painted in 2024. Three standing figures, built from the layered, gestural brushwork that runs through the whole series.

The figures hold still while everything around them moves — statues in a world that refuses to settle. It comes from the same place as the rest of the work: images that arrive while I'm awake and get painted down before they dissolve. What they mean is left open on purpose; collectors tend to find themselves in one of the three.

Size and presentation
Oil on canvas board, 2024. Sold unframed; it frames cleanly and the colour reads deepest behind glass.

About the artist
I'm a London-based painter. My work is a direct record of REM intrusion — dream imagery that arrives while I'm awake — which is documented in my NHS medical records. The paintings hold that state: layered, vivid, half-waking, the boundary between the dream world and the waking one worn thin.
